The long-known by the world but stubbornly denied by Putin presence of Russian troops in Ukraine this week received another proof — this time from a reputable international organization. Meanwhile, US highest officials and UK Queen provided their verbal support to Ukraine. On the Ukrainian government side — the struggle for the country foreign debt restructuring continues, while the former Georgian president M.Saakashvili was appointed the Odesa region governor.

Currency board for Ukraine? No!

If Ukraine wants to achieve macroeconomic stabilization, then the currency board is an inferior solution. The history of currency boards suggests that it’s a temporary solution at best. In the vast majority of cases, stable currency boards are observed only for tiny countries.

Index for Monitoring Reforms (IMoRe). Release 9

The iMoRe value for the 9th monitoring period (April 20th – May 10th, 2015) totaled +2.1 points out of the possible range from -5.0 to +5.0 points. This is one of the highest index values since the start of observations, which, in our opinion, meets acceptable pace of reforms. In this round experts positively valued reforms in public finance, industrial organization and trade policy, as well as in the energy sector.
