LIE: Photo depicting Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine Takashi Kurai who decided to fight on Ukraine’s side

A photo allegedly depicting Japanese Ambassador Takashi Kurai is being shared online. It is claimed that he decided to fight on Ukraine’s side.

However, this information is not true. The photo shows the Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan Sergiy Korsunsky. Earlier this fake was debunked by independent fact checkers from AFP fact checking, Chequeado and Newschecker.

A reverse image search in TinEye showed that the photo shows the Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan Sergiy Korsunsky. On Feb. 15, 2022, Korsunsky posted this photo on his Twitter account. In response to a question from a Twitter user, Serhiy Korsunsky posted another photo without a protective mask. He can be easily identified on this photo.

The author of the post claims that the photo shows Takashi Kurai, the ambassador of Japan to Ukraine. However, the last official visit of the ambassador is dated June 1, 2021. Then the Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Roman Mashovets met with Takashi Kurai to discuss defense-military cooperation between the two countries.
