The unexpected result of the referendum on Brexit has irritated the opponents of Britain’s exit from the EU and has deeply concerned the European public. It is the first time since 1985, when Greenland left the European Economic Community, that a member state has expressed its disapproval of the highly valued principles of the EU. One of the most influential EU member states has rejected the free movement of people and goods, which was once an unshakable European value.
