Energy independence has become an important factor in the survival of Ukrainian businesses. According to a Deloitte survey, 76% of companies are affected by prolonged power outages, while 88% say they are prepared for such disruptions.

The most popular solution for enterprises seeking energy independence is generators (74%). A significant share of companies (41%) are installing batteries, and many businesses are also implementing energy-efficiency measures. In 2022-2023, hundreds of thousands of generators (primarily low-capacity units) were imported into Ukraine (Figure 1).

Note: Generators with a capacity of 2-5 kW are suitable for households; capacities of up to 75 kW are sufficient for small businesses; and higher-capacity generators are required for medium-sized and large enterprises.

Figure 1 shows that Ukrainians imported the largest number of generators in 2022 and 2023. The market likely became largely saturated in 2024, suggesting that a significant share of businesses had already prepared for power outages. At the same time, 94% of companies purchased additional equipment using their own funds, while only 5% did so with government support.
