Verification within Meta’s Third-Party Fact-Checking Program

The network is spreading a video of an alleged fire in a shopping center in Kharkiv caused by russian shelling. However, the video is not related to the shelling of Kharkiv, it is most likely a fire in a shopping center in russia.

A reverse search of video frames via Google, TinEye and Bing was unsuccessful. We decided to find footage from the video through the russian portal Yandex Images, which is blocked in Ukraine. The russian social network Vkontakte points out that this is a fire in the Crystal shopping center. The video was published in 2017. We did not find this video in reliable sources, but it is well known that it is not the events of 2022.

Search Results

On April 22 (it was when that publications appeared with a video of an alleged fire in a shopping center) the SES in Kharkiv Oblast reported that they had extinguished a fire in a warehouse due to russian shelling.
